Prevođenje medicinskih naziva na primjeru knjige Adama Kaya "This is going to hurt. Secret diaries of a junior doctor"

This thesis comprises five annotated translations accompanied by a discussion. Excerpts from the following three books were translated from English into Croatian: This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor by Adam Kay; The Translation of Children’s Literature. A Reader, edited by Gillian Lathey, and Quantitative research methods in translation and interpreting studies by Christopher Mellinger and Thomas Hanson. Excerpts from two books were translated from Croatian into English: Narodni preporod u Istri (1860-1907) by Antoni Cetnarowicz and Uvjerljivo drugi by Sven Popović. The discussion focused on some of the problems in translating style and medical terminology from English into Croatian on the example of This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor, a nonfiction book written in the form of a diary by British author Adam Kay and published in 2017. This text proved interesting for the discussion as it features a blend of colloquial language combined with a humorous style as well as specialist language from the field of medicine, i.e. medical terminology. First, a brief overview of style, genre, and certain theoretical concepts was introduced. This was then followed by practical examples from the text demonstrating the potential of certain translation strategies.Ovaj se diplomski rad sastoji od pet prijevoda s popratnim komentarima te završne rasprave. A Reader, urednice Gillian Lathey i Quantitative research methods in translation and interpreting studies Christophera Mellingera i Thomasa Hansona. S hrvatskog na engleski jezik prevedeni su dijelovi dviju knjiga: Narodni preporod u Istri (1860-1907) Antonija Cetnarowicza i Uvjerljivo drugi Svena Popovića. Završna se rasprava bavi odabranim problemima u prevođenju stila i medicinske terminologije s engleskog na hrvatski jezik na primjeru dnevnika This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor britanskog autora Adama Kaya iz 2017. g. Navedeni je tekst zanimljiv zbog svojeg spoja humorističnog razgovornog jezika i specijaliziranog jezika iz područja medicine. U raspravi je prvo predstavljen kratak pregled problematike stila i žanra te su definirani glavni teorijski koncepti. Zatim su u radu navedeni primjeri iz dnevnika i prijevoda na kojima se mogu vidjeti rezultati primjene odabranih prijevodnih strategija
